Matilda and Joliet

Largeish post today!
First, concept sketches:
Meet Matilda

I might tweek her a little more to make sure she looks her age, but personality wise I think she’s there.

“Mrs. T”
She needs a lot of tweeks… mostly in hair and fashion. She’s a witch
generic stuff:
And remember how I said I’d take pictures at the Joliet Area Historical Museum? Here have these!
Harvey working in one of the storage rooms.
The piles of wedding dresses we were sorting by era. Tulle was the bane of our existence.
A veil from the early 1900’s
Yes I have more photos, but I haven’t had time to resize them. Well that’s a lie, I *did* resize them, but I didn’t save them and the photoshop crashed. Too lazy to do it right now.

Exciting!

I can’t remember the last time I had a post with this many sketches… maybe never?
I’m just excited because I have a new sketchbook I guess.
ANYWAYS…
Sasquatches:

Old original characters, two of whom are related:
I guess this is supposed to be a siren?
oh look! an attempt to do a cityscape… awwwwww
Also, it’s April Fools… so as per tradition:
“I have cancer”
…. Fooled you!
(yes I know cancer shouldn’t be a joke, but I have said that I have cancer every april fools day since I was in grade school, it’s an awful tradition but I’m keeping it.)

Where can I get more time?

Instead of doing what I am actually supposed to be doing this week… I played around with Illustrator some more:

in a way I guess it’s good because I need more practice, but on the other hand there is a ton of stuff I need to take care of. Specifically I need to work on 1) actual school work and 2) comics…

In other news, I’m going to be heading out to the Joliet Historical Museum tomorrow.
My lovely friend Harvey (who was my model for the snow white project) is an intern in their collections department and will be sorting through a menacing pile of old wedding dresses.
Obviously I’ll be there for emotional support.
I’ll try and grab a few photos of things to post here.
See you on Thursday.

Animation how I miss thee

What? a post from me not about myself or featuring my “art”?
NO FREAKING WAY! YOU’RE KIDDING RIGHT?

No, I’m not, shut up and check out these awesome animations:

The Oscar Nominated “The Secret of Kells”

I cannot wait to see it!

Also check out “Kirikou and the Sorceress” (Kirikou et la sorcière):

Watching things like this really makes me want to get back to my light table!

Daww…

This is possibly the cutest thing I’ve made in order to practice using Illustrator:

I’m actually quite surprised how easy illustrator is to work with once you are initially acquainted. I think my biggest problem was that I’ve never really used hot keys… with photoshop you don’t really need to.

With Illustrator hot keys are essential.
Also I’m making the move to Tuesday and Thursday postings official!
